FEMA is changing one of the ways it handles assistance for Katrina survivors. Instead of handing out $2,000 debit cards for help with food, transportation and shelter, the agency will now offer close to $2,400 to help pay for three months rent. The new rental program began this week. The money is available by check or by electronic funds transfer. |
