The return trip of death row inmate Charles Victor Thompson wasn't without delays. Thompson, who escaped from the Harris County jail last week, was arrested in Shreveport, La Sunday night. After he waived extradition Monday, members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force took a DPS plane to Shreveport to pick up Thompson. Thompson was restrained in handcuffs, leg irons and waist chains for the return trip to Houston. The pilot had planned to land at at Hobby Airport, but bad weather forced them to divert towards Hooks Airport. As officers approached Hooks Airport, they nearly had to divert to another airport due to the onset of fog. After landing at Hooks Airport, GCVOTF members had to wait for the arrival of their transport team who had to travel from Hobby Airport to Hooks. Thompson was then driven to the Inmate Processing Center in downtown Houston in a three-car convoy of unmarked vehicles. Thompson arrived at the Inmate processing Center shortly after 10 p.m. and booked back into the Harris County Jail. GCVOTF personnel said that Thompson was "talkative" during the trip and he appeared to be cooperating with investigators. |
