A local congregation has an interesting way of boosting attendance. The Abundant Life Christian Center in La Marque is holding a special drawing at its New Year's Eve service this year. The barge that capsized in Port Arthur last month has been lifted out of the water and is on its way to Alabama for salvage. After it hit an oil platform that sank during Hurricane Rita, 3 million gallons of oil spilled from it. The spilled oil never reached the coast and government officials say they don't expect it to. New home sales in the U.S.tumbled a whopping 11 percent in November, the biggest drop in more than a decade. The news for Houston wasn't nearly as gloomy. While new home sales outside the Loop were sluggish, sales inside the Loop were strong. That is way up from last year's number of 263 to date. The United States Post Office said Wednesday it will make no deliveries on Christmas Day or the day after. Those expecting packages on Christmas Day can pick them up at the main post office on Franklin. If you've ever looked for your car only to learn its been towed you know it can cost a small fortune to get your car back. Montgomery County commissioners this week passed an ordinance that sets limits on what wrecker drivers can charge. The new law sets a $175 cap. That is for tows that are not requested by the car's owner. Carbon monoxide comes from anything in your home that burns fuel, such as a water heater or gas furnace. It is odorless and colorless and can be deadly.
