All those "Free Pimp C" T-shirts and baseball caps are no longer needed.\

Underground rap star Pimp C became a free man Friday after almost
four years in prison.

Pimp C is half of the acclaimed Texas duo Underground Kingz, or
UGK. The 32-year-old was granted parole last month after serving
about half of an eight-year sentence on an aggravated assault
charge.

Rappers and fans across the country have used "Free Pimp C" as
a rallying call since his incarceration in 2002. Many rap stars
have made appearances wearing clothing sporting the phrase.

The rapper's real name is Chad Butler. He was sentenced after
falling behind on community service required after he pleaded no
contest to aggravated assault. He was charged after brandishing a
gun during an argument with a woman at a mall.

The Port Arthur native has sold well over one million records
since 1992 from five major-label releases with U-G-K-.
Houston-based Rap-A-Lot Records released his first solo album in
March, called "The Sweet James Jones Stories." Created from a
series of freestyle raps he did years ago, it debuted at Number
Three on Billboard magazine's rap charts.
