Classmates of Teketria Buggs will hold a memorial ceremony in her honor Thursday.
The 12-year-old's body was found in the Brazos River early last week, not far from her home in Orchard.
She attended Brazos Elementary School, where students and teachers will dedicate a tree in her name and release balloons in her memory.
Funeral services will be held Friday at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church in Richmond.
