An Eisenhower High School student in court Tuesday trying to keep a goat he's accused of beating. Jerraud Routte was supposed to be grooming the goat for an upcoming livestock show. Classmates alleged he beat the 6-month-old goat so severely that it bled. Routte was charged with cruelty to animals and the SPCA took custody of the goat. During a hearing over custody Tuesday, the judge said surveillance video purporting to show the beating was not compelling. He also ruled much of the testimony from the county's only witness was hearsay. The hearing will continue Wednesday. |
