Former Playboy Playmate of the year Anna Nicole Smith is headed to the highest court in the United States. Tuesday the Supreme Court will hear her case, which involves the fortune of Smith's deceased husband J. Howard Marshall II. The pair married in 1994 when Smith was 26 and Marshall was 89. He died just 14 months later. For years now, Smith has been locked in a legal battle with her 67-year-old son-in-law E. Pierce Marshall III over 1.6 billion in inheritance money. A state probate court jury returned a verdict in Houston in 2001 that Marshall did not leave any of his estate to Smith. On appeal, a federal bankruptcy judge sided with Smith, before another federal judge reduced the award and a federal appeals court ruled that federal courts should never have gotten involved in the case. Smith began her career in a Houston strip club. |
