They are searching the area in and around the Sam Houston National Forest area.
Family members said he often took hikes in the woods near his home in Waverley.
The boy is 5-feet tall, 80 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, a tan jacket with red trim, blue jeans, a blue cap and black rubber boots.
No foul play is suspected.
