End is near for prosecutors' Enron case

With former Enron Treasurer Ben Glisan beginning his second day on the stand, prosecutors are announcing the last few witnesses they plan to call before resting their case in the next week or so.

Glisan is the last high-profile witness for the government.

After he finishes, perhaps on Thursday or maybe even next Monday, prosecutors plan to call Glenn Ray, Karen Choyce, Joanne Cortez, who is a Summary Witness on Financial Records, then Kathy Dalton, and Sidonia Wilson.

Prosecutor Kathryn Ruemmler, who is conducting direct examination of Glisan, said she would question him through noon on Wednesday. Daniel Petrocelli, Skilling's attorney, said he might spend a half day with Glisan on cross-examination. Bruce Collins, on Ken Lay's defense team, said he would be "a while" on cross. Perhaps so. Glisan has discussed and damaged Lay more than Skilling during his testimony.

The prosecution had hoped to rest its case the week of March 27th. With five more witnesses, although each are supposed to be brief, it's uncertain if it can meet that deadline.
