Cross-examination of ex-Enron Treasurer Ben Glisan is underway right now at Houston's Federal Court. Skilling's attorney, Daniel Petrocelli, is not holding back in trying to discredit Glisan before the jury. Petrocelli attacked Glisan's testimony from Tuesday and Wednesday, which may have been some of the most damaging to the defense in this eight week trial. "You never told Jeff Skilling he was committing fraud," Petrocelli said. "No," Glisan responded. "I didn't." "You never told Jeff Skilling he was lying, did you?," Petrocelli stated. "I did not have that conversation with Mr. Skilling," Glisan replied. Petrocelli immediately moved to the prison sentence Glisan is currently serving. "It's horrible and you want out don't you," Petrocelli said. "I don't wish this on anyone," said Glisan. "Yes. I would very much like to be home with my family." "In order to improve your life in prison and in order to reduce your sentence you have rendered substantial assistance [to prosecutors]," Skilling charged. "It is true I have met with the government," Glisan shot back. "It is untrue I'm sitting here today solely in the hope that this results in the betterment of my situation." "I'm looking at six months from going home," Glisan added. "If I were to perjure myself on this stand it would be obvious." "You did lie in this trial," Petrocelli said. "You lied all day yesterday didn't you?" "No I did not," Glisan responded. Petrocelli claimed Glisan lied that Skilling was aware of his lucrative investment in the Southhampton deal where he netted a million dollars after putting in $5,826. Glisan testified it was his understanding from Andrew Fastow that Skilling was aware of the fraudulent deal. |
