The Rice University board of Trustees has announced the approval of a tuition and fee increase of more than 13 percent for new students starting next year.
Officials at the University of Houston are considering a similar tuition and fee hike of about 10 percent.
Both schools cite higher energy prices for the increase.
Texas A&M University announced a 10 percent increase in its tuition just last week.
