Dr. Mark Gilliland reached a plea deal with prosecutors just minutes before a jury was about to deliver its sentence.
He agreed to a two-year prison term and a $10,000 fine.
Ironically, the jury was only going to give him 10 years probation.
"The situation has been tragic for everyone, and I hope other people can learn from my mistake," Gilliland said.
Gilliland is also expected to lose his medical license.
