People against Metro's proposed University light rail line along Richmond voiced their concerns at a meeting Friday morning.

Among them, small business owner, Robert McClain, "We're a bunch of small independent little people and we're up against an organization that's unaccountable that controls billions of dollars in funding."

The No Rail on Richmond Mobility Coalition met at a Montrose area art gallery.

The group said it's against light rail on Richmond, that Metro lied about it's original plans to build on Westpark and not on Richmond.

The University Line would extend from South Main to Shepherd and down Richmond.

Metro said no private property would be needed west of Kirby, that only eight private properties would be needed east of Kirby.

Metro plans to hold two more public meetings.

The Houston Chronicle, Friday reported that Metro has selected Harrisburg Boulevard for its future East End line.

Construction is slated to begin July 2007.

That line which will reportedly open December of 2010 would operate with train-like buses and then convert to light rail if ridership increases.
