Browsing through ESPN.com, I found a great article by Jeffri Chadiha. It's about the need for a good backup quarterback in the NFL. The article has a lot of quotes from Jon Kitna.
Last year, only 16 of the 32 quarterbacks who started the year, finished the season playing all 16 games. On this list, included Tony Romo. Do you remember seeing Brad Johnson strugg...

Dale is getting into the mix today - two questions from Hansen already (has to be a new record).
Cowboys PR man Rich Dalrymple met with the media at practice today and asked us not to show and talk about it when the Cowboys practice an odd formation (wildcat, for example). The Cowboys don't want opposing coaches to have a chance to see that until the real games start.
Dale asked Phillips whether he thinks that it makes any diff...

John Kitna has been a very average quarterback in his 13-year career. 152 touchdowns, 151 interceptions, and a 76.6 quarterback rating.
Watching him from a distance, I've always liked Kitna. He comes off as a tough QB who can be one of the guys - a player who's easy to root for whether you're a teammate or a fan. Whatever he lacks in talent or in shiny statistics he makes up for with grit, which in some ways make him more likeable, and...

The Dallas Cowboys' three-day minicamp is over so it's time to take a look at who helped their cause. You can't tell a whole lot about players when they're not wearing pads, but you can certainly tell who is making plays and is catching the coaches' eyes.
Winners:
Patrick Crayton: The guy who is always fluctuating between second and third wide receiver had a strong minicamp. Crayton runs good routes and

The Dallas Cowboys are having a hard time doing one of the most fundamental things in football: Snapping the ball.
The center-quarterback exchange is how every play starts. If you can't do that, you can't do anything.
Well Cory Proctor and Jon Kitna cannot connect. They just bobbled an exchange. It's been a consistent problem during minicamp.
Before and after most of the practice sessions the centers and quarterbacks h...

Jon Kitna is a welcome addition to the Cowboys, especially after the disaster that happened to the team's offense when Tony Romo was hurt last season.
Throughout most of minicamp, Kitna has looked like the reliable backup they need. He has good arm strength.
However, in the first practice of the last day of minicamp, he didn't look very good. Most of his passes were incompletions and he had two picked.
Terence Newman...

Maybe it's the heat out here.
The Dallas Cowboys offense and defense are having some words.
It's been an ongoing theme of minicamp.
The latest incident came in six-on-six passing drills. The Cowboys offensive specialists were going against the defensive secondary and inside linebackers.
Tony Romo threw a pass towards ti...

The Cowboys are having a little fun ribbing each other.
The first team offense was working on their red zone package and quarterback Tony Romo was going through his reads.
It would have been a delay of game and coach Wade Phillips even called timeout and sent the offense back to the huddle.
Then they tried again, again with a delay.
So safety Ken Hamlin yelled out that the offense was taking too long.

New Cowboys backup quarterback Jon Kitna has had a problem taking snaps during these OTA's. We (the media) were out there today for the fourth time in the last four weeks, and we have been allowed to attend one OTA session each week. So we've seen only four out of the Cowboys' 10 workouts so far, but Kitna's inability to take a direct snap has been a disturbing trend. He's probably dropped the snap a half dozen times, and that's just from the ...

There aren't a lot of starting spots that are really being contested for the Dallas Cowboys, but there are a few.
At today's OTA, Patrick Crayton started team drills at wide receiver opposite Roy Williams.
However, Sam Hurd, Miles Austin, Isaiah Stanback, Mike Jefferson and Travis Wilson are all not working out today. Austin is a lik...

You can't really tell during a rookie mini-camp if guy will be a big-time player, but you can certainly get an idea if a guy won't be playing.
Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter is not going to be around long. If it wasn't enough the Cowboys first two quarterbacks are set in Tony Romo and Jon Kitna and the team used a fourth-round pick on Texas A&M's Stephen McGee, Carpenter is not doing himself any favors in the first impression...

Underwhelming. That's the word I would use to describe the Cowboys version of the 2009 draft. This is partly due to no first day selection. But, I find it a bit comical how everyone is already labeling this draft as a bust. Let's see how things play out first, and then let's judge.
The only way you can evaluate a draft is to look at the draft 3 maybe even 4 years down the road, not 24 hours after. Sure, there probably aren't any futur...

Terrell Owens is gone and so is safety Roy Williams.
But it's the departure of Tank Johnson that concerns me. Johnson was not an impact player during his time in Dallas, but it's an important role.
With the trade of Anthony Henry to Detroit for backup quarterback Jon Kitna, the Cowboys are thin at corner.
So while a lot of talk of what the Cowboys should do with their 11 draft picks has centered around wide receiver ...

We spoke live with new Cowboys backup quarterback Jon Kitna last night on Tylock Lasik SportsTalk (6:30PM, channel 52, Monday-Friday). He was very clearly thrilled to be coming to Dallas, and expressed excitement over next season.
I asked Kitna point-blank if the Cowboys' locker room chemistry issues gave him any hesitation, when he found out he had been traded. He said not at all, and that every NFL team has it's iss...

The Cowboys' newest quarterback, Jon Kitna, will join us tonight with a live phone interview on Tylock Lasik SportsTalk, 6:30 PM on KFWD, channel 52. I plan to ask him his thoughts on Tony Romo's struggles, the troubling season of his former Lions teammate Roy Williams, and his once-heated trash talking with former adversary Bradie James.
Many in the media have questioned whether the Cowboys gave up too much to get Kit...

The Dallas Cowboys have acquired quarterback Jon Kitna to back up Tony Romo.
The Cowboys sent cornerback Anthony Henry to Detroit in Saturday's trade.
Kitna finished the 2008 season on injured reserve because of a back injury and was not expected to return to the Lions. He is due a $1 million roster bonus March 3.
Kitna started four games for Detroit last year, completing 68 of 120 attempts for 758 yards and five touch...

Earlier today is the first time I heard the line on the Cowboys-Bengals game -- and it's huge. At last check, the Cowboys are favored by 16.
That's a college line, or a Patriots line from 2007, and it sounded absolutely crazy. But after thinking about it for a few minutes, it might not be far off. Despite playing a possible let-down game against an 0-4 opponent, Dallas should be properly motivated by the Washington loss. And, and this...
