Fundraising problems may force students in the Big “D” Marching Band at Dallas’ Townview magnet school to scrap plans to participate in a “pre-Olympic” festival in China this summer. The band – regarded as one of the area’s best – has raised about $60,000, but it needs to raise another $500,000 in the next few months to meet deposit deadlines. Band director Dean Hill said the band needs about $200,000 by Jan. 15 in order to secure the lowest-possible airfares. “If we’re going to pull this off, it’s going to take corporate donations," he said. "We’re just not getting the dollar amounts we hoped for.” Click here to pledge a donation. E-mail entry: |
