Last week, the state announced a bunch of procedures that it thinks will stop cheating on state exams. (Many of these changes are the result of the intrepid work of a couple of News reporters, by the way.) But take a look at the videos posted on this site, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what test proctors are up against. (I want one of those pens. That's just cool.)
I think it's interesting that the DMN- after all their cheating investigation- has not jumped on TEA's statement about moving the March 4 test date. From TEA's website at:
http://www.tea.state.tx.us/taa/studassmt011608.htm
check out this section from the middle of the page: "Out-of-school examinees who plan to register for the retest onsite and arrive at school on the originally scheduled days will be permitted to take the retest needed."
That means if an out-of-school student shows up on March 4 to take the ELA exit exam (with short writing prompts), schools must give them that test then, even though the rest of the state won't take that test until March 5. In fact, they can show up for each test now a day earlier than everyone else.
I'll bet those writing prompts will be on someone's MySpace or Facebook by 5:00 p.m. that day. Other parts of different tests would be posted each day by the same time, I figure...
How come DMN hasn't busted the commish about that? Control cheating? Not this year...
