What the media, blogs and others are saying about DISD today.

lunchtray.JPG

** DISD Press (written by a Townview grad) is skeptical of the proposed high school reforms.

** The Skyline switcheroo is a done deal.

** Trustees got an update on DISD's facility needs yesterday. Looks like they'll decide next month if they want a bond vote in May.

** A more complete grade inflation story than we posted here yesterday. Trustees look to be split on the issue. You can comment on the idea here.

** A story we missed yesterday. A Dallas fourth grader gives a heck of a speech.

** An edublogger looks at district use of "instructional coaches" -- a strategy embraced by DISD. The blogger doesn't like that Dallas pays its coaches more than regular teachers.

Instructional coaches ARE teachers. Many of them are among the best teachers, and they're chosen to work with other teachers for that reason. Their duties are much different from those of a principal. They work most of the time in the classroom, team teaching at times with less experienced teachers, giving demonstration lessons on how to teach a particular concept, or just observing and giving feedback. In their spare time they provide staff development, write curriculum, develop lessons, help with testing...maybe they need a little extra pay. Also, I'm not sure (because I'm not an instructional coach myself), but I believe they work more days a year than classroom teachers.
