Send a shoutout to your DISD trustee

January is Board Recognition Month (let me guess, you had no idea), and what better time than to send a few lines on your school trustee -- that person who represents your area for free. How well is he/she doing their job? How have they helped out in a situation? You get it. (If you're clueless to who your board member is, click here.)

I appreciated the recent vocal support of several board members at the January board briefing. Jerome Garza, Leah Ann Ellis, Lew Blackburn especially.

Being a board member, particularly in Dallas, is a tough job, many hours, much aggravation and no pay.

Thanks to those nine board members who serve.

The Rosemont Schools always appreciate the support we get from our board trustee, Jerome Garza. He is very receptive and responsive to his community of schools. THANK YOU, JEROME!

Grades and Sports

Since SOC was investigated for their basketball program. I am surprise that the football and basketball program at Roosevelt has not been investigated.

Teachers at Roosevelt are told and sometime pressured into changing grades for students who have failed in classes. This is a common practice at Roosevelt that needs to be stopped.

What happen to No Pass/No Play. Only at Roosevelt you get No Pass/Still Play

Now is the time of shcool board members to actually listen to their constituents. NOT ONE PERSON in Dallas outside of 3700 Ross thinks that carving up Skyline to bail out Conrad is a good idea! Show some backbone, Board of Trustees! You want to be appreciated? Then earn it by saving that school.

Hi Five Ron Price. Thanks for suiting up and showing up at Skyline. Your support is appreciated.

Please put pulling Skyline clusters on the agenda for the board meeting. We'll be there to support YOU!

Mr. Blackburn,
I am so proud of the way that you voice your opinions and stand up for what is right. Thanks for all that you have done and will do in the future for A. Maceo Smith!! I am sure you will remember where the following great words came from however,I have added my special touch.

The Black child will need Black role models in the classrooms, and in the principal’s office, and strong, honest school board trustee's. They will need teachers who know about their culture, their past, present, and future. They will need the Black community to support their efforts to get a quality education in Dallas ISD.

I am Lew Blackburn, Dallas ISD trustee, District 5. I want to thank you for submitting your thoughts, concerns, and ideas regarding Dallas ISD on this blog. Keep them coming. While we may not always respond, some of us t6rustees read your comments regularly.

Being a school board trustee has taken more time that I imagined before my election in June 2001. However, I honorably serve my district 5 communities especially, and the entire Dallas ISD communities in general.

Daphene Edmond, thanks for remembering my comments from another school community struggle. I appreciate your service to the A. Maceo Smith High School.

I look forward to continuing to serve the District 5 communities, and the Dallas ISD communities. Keep your comments coming. They help me to keep a pulse on the communities.
