A. Maceo students to move under bond proposal

A bombshell was (publicly) dropped today concerning the DISD’s proposed $1.3 billion bond program in May. Under the proposal, students at A. Maceo Smith would be moved to the closed Wilmer-Hutchins high school building, south of Interstate 20. Students at Maynard Jackson would move over to the A. Maceo building, making it a middle school. It wasn’t clear if any of the facilities would have the A. Maceo name.

If the reaction by one A. Maceo Smith grandmother is any indication, trustees beware!

Linda Wynn-Wilkerson, who has grandkids at A. Maceo, angrily gave trustee Ron Price an earful after a board briefing on the proposed bond election (and the school isn’t even in Mr. Price’s district). She told him what a crazy plan it was to move A. Maceo Smith students south of Interstate 20. She plans on calling a community meeting to protest the bond election -- and trustees haven't even appoved to have one yet.

DISD staffers said the A. Maceo building is overpopulated and the Wilmer-Hutchins high school will provide more than enough room. They said it also allows students from the Wilmer-Hutchins area to attend a school in their area instead of being bused to four or five DISD campuses. Staffers say they plan on renovating the Wilmer-Hutchins school and it's going to be nice.

Tawnell,
Can we get our hands on the minutes of that board meeting ? Jack and Jill taxpayer need to start paying attention to this bond proposal
"RIGHT NOW"
There is all kinds of "FUNNY" things in its content. And my personal favorite is that it does not address getting away from portable classrooms and portable outhouses. Looking forward to tommorrows article and will have some additional info to add about a certain middle school that was in the news this summer. That is if you and Kent missed it.
