Lobster, caviar and foie gras, oh my

lobsterThinking of ringing in the new year with a splurge of luxury to go with that bubbly?

TJ's Seafood Market has both caviar and lobster at the ready. And you'll be surprised to discover who has a great duck foie gras.

TJ's caviar selections include wild osetra ($280/ounce), Russian farm-raised osetra ($150/ounce), wild American sturgeon ($50/ounce) and, for the rest of us, red salmon roe ($35/8 ounces).

Live lobsters come in 1.5- and 2-pound sizes for $19.99 a pound, with tails ranging from $14.99 to $29.99 each, depending on the size and source. If you cant stand the thought of throwing a live lobster into a pot of boiling water, TJ's will steam and crack 'em at no charge. TJ's is at Forest and Preston (southwest corner).

(I once watched Watel's Allen Street Cottage owner Rene Peeters deftly kill a lobster before putting it in the pot. The class held its collective breath as the chef's knife came down smartly just behind its head. The lobster never moved. It was over before it knew what hit it. And we had a great lobster feast.)

As for that foie gras, check out the 6.5-ounce Trois Petits Cochons Bloc de Foie Gras de Canard made with sauternes, cream and Cognac. It's $29.99 at Kuby's in Snider Plaza.
