FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For Immediate Release January 11, 2007 Jewish Community Center Personal Trainer Article IT TAKES A VILLAGE … TO GET IN SHAPE There’s a popular proverb that says, “it takes a village to raise a child,” but if you ask long-time Jewish Community Center of Dallas member Debbie Koeppel, “it takes a village to get in shape!” In this case, Debbie’s village is the J’s group of dedicated and creative fitness professionals who provide a full compliment of exercise opportunities to keep her motivated, inspired and coming back for more. For four years, Mrs. Koeppel has enjoyed a standing appointment at the J with professional trainer Justin Hodan. It’s a group fitness class consisting of three to four women and a bond forged through sweat, determination and accountability. Alongside Debbie are her mother Vi Ganeles, who joined a few years ago; her gal-pal, Terry Levinger; and Laurie Steinberg. During the one-hour class, Hodan leads the ladies through a variety of exercises that range from aerobics to weights to core and stability training. “Working out with a personal trainer either alone or in a group is one of the best ways to stay motivated or dedicated to your fitness goals,” says Hodan, Fitness Director, who has worked with the J for about seven years now. “Personal trainers have a ‘tool box’ of exercise techniques and routines to choose from which allows us to add variety to training sessions and really stimulate muscular development and growth.” At the request of her daughter, Mrs. Ganeles gave up her long-standing membership at another gym to take in everything the J’s new and improved 9,000 square foot fitness center has to offer. She wasn’t disappointed. “I just love working out with my daughter at the J,” says Ganeles with a smile in her voice and a ###
In addition to group fitness and personal training Mrs. Koeppel and Mrs. Ganeles change up their routine with a variety of other classes including boot camp, spinning and land and water aerobics– just to name a few. Although she no longer works full-time, Mrs. Koeppel finds that coming to the J gives her day that same kind of discipline and routine, as well as a comforting feeling of accomplishment. “It’s also provides me with great social interaction,” she adds. “I’m always running into a friend on the way in or out. It’s just one more perk on top of all the benefits of a good work out.”
