I don't think this is any big surprise, given how Apple and Starbucks had already announced plans to let iPhone users purchase songs via Wi-Fi at Starbucks locations (and the iPhone, of course, officially works only on AT&T's network at the moment), but here are the details of the new AT&T/Starbucks announcement: Starbucks said Monday it will give customers that use its Starbucks purchase card two hours of free wireless access per day. After that, it will cost $3.99 for a two-hour session. Monthly memberships will cost $19.99 and include access to any of AT&T's 70,000 hot spots worldwide. But T-Mobile is probably feeling a bit bummed this morning. UPDATE: AT&T e-mailed me to note that, while not mentioned in that article I linked to, 12 million or so AT&T broadband customers will have free Wi-Fi access at Starbucks. Something to consider if you're shopping for a new ISP, and certainly a nice perk for current AT&T subscribers. E-mail entry: |
